Sunstar | Echo of Growth
A Sunstar podium designed around the brand's role in accompanying children as they grow. Curved forms, distinct visual treatments for Pulpy and Teen, and audience-specific design details brought the concept of growth into the structure and experience of the display.
Challenge
High Detail, Limited Production Time
We entered the design process later than the competing teams. Once our concept was selected, we had only 10 days to produce the podium. The number and complexity of the design details made this an exceptionally tight production window.
The challenge was intensified by repeated power outages during the summer, which significantly reduced productive working time and complicated the execution schedule. Preserving the intended design details while managing these constraints became the central challenge of the project.
Concept
Growing Alongside Children
We began by reviewing Sunstar's brand book and previous projects. This research led us to a concept inspired by Sunstar accompanying children throughout their growth—a theme intended to be expressed not only through the project's message, but also through its forms, details, and spatial experience.
Curved forms were incorporated into the overall structure to convey a sense of movement and growth. Separate visual treatments were developed for Pulpy and Teen, reflecting the different audiences associated with each product.
Execution
Designing from Brand Identity
Sunstar's brand book and previous projects informed the initial design direction. The final concept translated the idea of growth into a cohesive visual language, carried through the podium's overall form and the details of each section.
Two Products, Two Visual Experiences
For the Teen section, design elements such as a study lamp informed the visual direction, connecting the space with themes of learning and growing up. For Pulpy, whose audience was younger, the display stand took inspiration from the shape of a school backpack. This brought a familiar element from children's everyday lives into the product presentation.
Expressing Growth Through Detail
Instead of conventional shelf talkers, illuminated linear elements were used along the shelf edges. This choice introduced a distinctive visual detail while helping carry the concept of growth throughout the podium.
Production Under Constraints
Production began after the design was selected, with a 10-day deadline. The complexity of the details and repeated summer power outages made execution more difficult than planned. The podium was ultimately completed three days later than the original schedule—a delay that took away from the overall experience of the project, but remains an important part of its production story.
/ 04 Outcome
A Cohesive Concept Within a Challenging Production Process The Sunstar podium translated the idea of growing alongside children into a visual concept expressed through curved forms, differentiated Pulpy and Teen sections, child-focused design references, and illuminated shelf-edge details. Despite production constraints and a three-day delay, the podium reached completion. The project highlighted the importance of aligning design complexity, scheduling, and real-world production conditions from the outset.
